About me.
I have worked at the heart of UK Trade Publishing for over 20 years, with a career spanning the complementary roles of Editor, Publicist, Commissioner and Consultant.
2019-2021 For the last two years, I have held the position of Editorial Director in-house at both Picador and Head of Zeus, covering maternity leaves and publishing authors such as Megan Hunter, Emily St John Mandel, Elodie Harper and Min Jin Lee.
2009–2019 Prior to Picador, I was working as a literary consultant, freelance editor and rights expert for several leading publishers and literary agencies, as well as authors direct. My regular clients include Picador, Picador Africa, Penguin, Bloomsbury, PFD, Sceptre, Open Road Integrated Media, Aitken Alexander, William Morris, The Susijn Agency, Mulcahy Associates, The Shaw Agency and Charisma AI.
2015–2019 Alongside my editing and consulting, I was also the London-based Strategic Advisor for acquisitions, procuring and publishing backlist from the UK for Open Road (a US based ebook publisher and marketing platform). Graham Greene, Gerald Durrell, Ben Okri, Rummer Godden, Bruce Chatwin, Beryl Bainbridge and Elisabeth Jane Howard were just some of the authors I acquired.
2002-2009 Before becoming a consultant, I commissioned and published fiction and non-fiction across the Picador list in my role as their Senior Editor. My authors included Peter Godwin, Dave Boling, Dalia Sofer, Jason Elliot and Alexander Frater. Two of my books went on to become Richard and Judy Bestsellers.
1998-2002 Earlier on in my career, I served as Publicity Director for Viking/Hamish Hamilton at Penguin, managing a team of publicists, and working on my own campaigns such as White Teeth by Zadie Smith, The Impressionist by Hari Kunzru, Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer and Austerlitz by W G Sebald.
1995-8 During my time as Press Officer at 4th Estate I won awards for my campaigns for Longitude by Dava Sobel and Fermat’s Last Theorem by Simon Singh.
